Democrat Sarah McBride became the first openly transgender person elected to the U.S. House of Representatives. Sarah McBride is a representative for the state of Delaware. Her political career achievements have included: being the first openly transgender person to serve as a state senator when she was elected in 2020, being the first openly transgender person to speak at a U.S. national political party convention in 2016, and being first openly transgender person to intern at the White House in 2012.
