The National Network to End Domestic Violence has released its annual Domestic Violence Counts: Census 2014 Report, detailing the lack of funding and services available to domestic violence survivors in the United States. According to the report, an average of 11,000 women and children are denied assistance each day due to a lack of resources. Victims seeking emergency shelter are often turned away, despite the fact that domestic violence is the leading cause of homelessness in the United States for women and children. Additionally, legal counseling is offered by just eleven percent of shelters surveyed, making it more difficult for domestic violence survivors to protect and enforce their rights.
