The 2024 annual report of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) identifies where women around the globe experience the worst barriers to reproductive health, including lack of access to medical care and death during pregnancy and childbirth.  Particular regions of concern include conflict zones like Ukraine and Gaza. Women in Africa suffer 130 times the death rate during pregnancy and childbirth compared to women in Europe and North America.  Women of African descent experience several times greater risk than white women in North America.
