US: Transgender Athletes Restricted from Participating in Sport

This January, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a bill (H.R. 28) amending the federal education law which bars sex-based discrimination (Title IX), thus restricting transgender athletes from competing in women's teams. This measure targets transgender athletes from competing in, but not from practicing in women's teams. Women's rights group criticized this development, citing concerns that the bill increases discrimination for transgender students who only desire to play amongst their peers.
