More than 400 women were murdered in 2015 in Turkey, according to a recent report by the Turkish group, Umut Vakfi (Hope Foundation). The report also found that many women were killed by partners or husbands after they tried to leave a violent relationship. Umut Vakfi mapped out the locations of murdered and injured women across Turkey. They found the highest number of murdered women, 35, in the country’s capital of Istanbul. The total number of femicides, 414, is higher than the number recorded in 2014.
