Following an online hate campaign spreading homophobic rhetoric, Tunisian authorities have intensified their crackdown on the LGBTI community, with a minimum of 84 arrests being reported between September 2024 and January 2025. Many of those targeted were arbitrarily detained, prosecuted under morality laws, and subjected to abuse, including forced anal examinations, which Amnesty International deems as a form of torture. LGBTQ activists and organizations have also faced heightened repression, including police interrogations and legal charges aimed at silencing advocacy.
