The Arwa Kairouaniya Center, a shelter in Tunisia, has been supporting women survivors of gender-based violence since 2017 to help them regain economic independence and be free from abuse and poverty. The Center provides a safe haven for those seeking refuge, providing psychological and medical care, examinations, legal support, and vocational training in areas like sewing, hairdressing, and more. However, despite Tunisia only having 16 such shelters, inconsistent funding remains a big issue for the continuity for these vital services, especially as they hope to accommodate more survivors and better support their own staff’s training.
