On January 24, 2025, Greece passed a tougher domestic violence law addressing cyber violence and workplace harassment. The law increases penalties for repeat offenders and introduces greater protection for victims, particularly minors. Opposition Members of Parliament (MPs) and civil society groups criticized the law for not consulting scientific bodies and focusing too heavily on punitive measures. Some also noted that the law does not align with EU guidelines, which stress prevention and long-term strategies. Additionally, the bill fails to criminalize femicide, a key point of contention.
