Council of Europe: Advancing Gender Equality in the AI Revolution
Friday, March 14, 2025 3:45 AM

Ahead of International Women’s Day, the Council of Europe has called for greater gender equality in AI and digital innovation, emphasizing the need for women’s leadership in shaping technological advancements. Despite progress, women remain underrepresented in critical digital sectors, with only 22% of AI professionals and 20% of top academic positions in Science and Engineering held by women. While AI has the potential to disrupt gender-based violence and promote equality, unchecked development risks reinforcing harmful biases. To address these concerns, the Council is drafting recommendations on AI and equality, as well as technology-facilitated violence against women. The new Framework Convention on Artificial Intelligence aims to ensure AI is used responsibly, fostering a more inclusive and equitable digital future.
