United States: Massachusetts Supreme Court Upholds 2011 Anti-Trafficking Law

The Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court has upheld the constitutionality of the state’s 2011 law criminalizing human trafficking. The first two people convicted under the law were accused of recruiting and coercing women into having have sex with men who responded to online ads for the women’s sexual services. The traffickers appealed their convictions to the Supreme Judicial Court, arguing that the law was “unconstitutionally vague, in particular the meaning of the phrase ‘commercial sexual activity.’” The Court rejected these arguments, finding the law “sufficiently clear.”
