A report from the UN Mission in the Republic of South Sudan (UNMISS) found that soldiers from the South Sudan army abducted and committed sexual violence against 172 women and girls during the government's ongoing civil war with rebel forces, known as the Sudan People’s Liberation Army (SPLA). The SPLA has also reportedly gang-raped, tortured and burned women alive as a fighting tactic. South Sudan President Salva Kiir denied the atrocities listed in the report but agreed to study the findings.
