Each year, the World Future Council (WFC) awards exemplary and pioneering laws and policies that accelerate “action towards just, sustainable and peaceful societies.” The WFC has compiled a new database of these best laws and policies, now available at www.FuturePolicy.org.

For example, the theme of the WFC’s 2014 awards was ending violence against women and girls. Award winners included Minnesota’s “Duluth Model” for effective domestic violence intervention (Gold Award); Burkina Faso’s law prohibiting female genital mutilation (Silver Award); the Council of Europe’s “Istanbul Convention” on preventing and combatting violence against women and domestic violence (Vision Award), and Austria’s support for victims of violence during court proceedings (Silver Award). In 2015, the WFC’s award theme is children’s rights. The Zanzibar Children’s Act received the Gold Award as a proven and effective policy to secure children’s rights.
