US: Trump Administration takes the first step in restricting reproductive health rights

The Trump administration has decided to rejoin the Geneva Consensus Declaration, an international anti-abortion pact, alongside countries like Uganda, Saudi Arabia, and Belarus. Secretary of State Marco Rubio directed the U.S. Mission to the U.N. to inform countries of this decision, reversing Biden’s withdrawal from the agreement.

The Geneva Consensus Declaration, launched during Trump’s first term, affirms that abortion is not an international right and that countries should have no obligation to support or even allow it. Critics argue this decision severely endangers women’s health, especially in developing nations that rely on foreign funding. The decision signals Trump’s broader agenda to restrict abortion access domestically and internationally.
