US: Many House Democrats support the immigration bill concerning sex crimes
Monday, February 3, 2025 7:55 AM

Over 60 House Democrats joined Republicans in supporting a bill led by Representative Nancy Mace that would make sexual and domestic violence deportable offenses, marking the second bipartisan immigration bill to pass this Congress. The bill received 10 more Democratic votes than in the previous session, with support from both battleground and solid blue district lawmakers. While some Democrats saw it as a step toward justice for victims, others, like Representative Dave Min, warned it could further hinder survivors from reporting such crimes. The vote comes amid GOP(Grand Old Party/Republican Party) pressure on immigration and crime-related legislation, including the recently passed Laken Riley Act.
