A young Turkish woman was sexually assaulted and murdered in Mersin, Turkey, leading to nationwide protests against the government’s inadequate approach to combating violence against women. More than 300 women were killed in Turkey in 2014 and twenty-seven more were murdered in January 2015 alone. Perpetrators enjoy widespread immunity for violence against women, including domestic violence and murder.
