United Nations: Submission Request, Online Violence Against Women

Ms. Dubravka Šimonović, the UN Special Rapporteur on violence against women, its causes, and consequences, is compiling a report for the UN Human Rights Council to make recommendations for combatting online violence against women and girls while maintaining freedom of expression. The Special Rapporteur has asked for examples of existing good practices regarding laws that regulate online violence and sexual harassment toward women, specifically:

  • Existing legislation on prosecution or punishment for online violence or harassment against women;
  • Existing policies to identify, report, and rectify incidents of online violence or harassment against women; and,
  • Existing case law from courts regarding administrative or prosecutorial proceedings in cases of online violence or harassment.
