The Special Rapporteur on violence against women, Yakin Ertürk, has issued an Addendum to her 2006 Report. The document reviews her communications with certain governments regarding allegations of women’s human rights violations. Ms. Ertürk’s communications detail the allegations of abuse against women in a particular country, which range from cases of violence against women such as rape and murder to exploitation of indigenous women. Government responses, which are submitted in response to only a fraction of the Rapporteur’s communications, explain the course of action taken by the government to respond to the allegations. The Addendum gives an overview of this correspondence followed by the Rapporteur’s observations for how the government could respond more effectively. The countries assessed in this report include Afghanistan, Bahrain, Colombia, Chad, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Egypt, Guatemala, India, Indonesia, Iraq, Islamic Republic of Iran, Israel, Mexico, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, China, Philippines, Qatar, Russian Federation, Saudi Arabia, Serbia and Montenegro, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Syria, Thailand, Turkmenistan, United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, United States of America, Uzbekistan, Vietnam and Zimbabwe.
