Spain: Government revises domestic violence algorithm amid concerns
Tuesday, February 4, 2025 8:30 AM

Spain has announced changes to its VioGén system, which uses an algorithm to assess the risk of domestic violence victims. The overhaul follows criticism that the system failed to protect some women who were later harmed. The revised version will no longer classify victims as “no risk” and will require more detailed police input to improve accuracy. Authorities also aim to enhance interagency collaboration and victim protection. Officials say the update reflects a commitment to strengthening protections against gender-based violence.
