In 2023, Slovakia’s Equal Pay Day falls on November 1st. Equal Pay Day is a day set by the Labor and Family Research Institute (LFRI) and exists to exemplify the gender pay gap in Slovakia. For every €1 earned by men, women earn 83 cents. LFRI calculated this means that, as of November 1st, women will work for free until the end of the year. Compared to 2022, researchers say that the gender pay gap is widening, citing the COVID-19 pandemic and a lack of growth in wages and bonuses at companies. When setting the date for this year's Equal Pay Day, the institute used data from Eurostat and the Statistics Office of Slovakia. According to this data, Slovakia’s wage gap is about 4 percent wider than Europe’s average.
