The Third Temporary Shelter House Was Opened as “Family, Information and Service center” in Tuv Aimag, Mongolia

Peace Corps volunteers, Brett and Jessica, who have been working in Mongolia since 2005 began to establish a temporary shelter house for victims jointly with  NCAV’s Tuv Aimag branch’s coordinator S.Enkhjargal. They applied to many people and unified their support. Thus, they could establish the shelter house on 30 March 2006. 

There were supporters, including the USA Embassy in Mongolia, USA Peace Corps, Friends of Mongolia NGO, ADRA Mongolis, Steve Zimmerman, The Croft Family and other people. 

Ts.Enkhbat governor of Tuv Aimag, and J.Batjargal chairman of Citizen’s Represntative Hural supported the shelter house with the local state budget. It is the first example and model Aimag among the other Aimags which are providing running costs for victims of domestic violence.

Establishing the shelter house and information, the service center in Tuv Aimag is an opportunity, runs training, distributes information, prevents violence, and  provides psychological and legal counseling services for victims and their family members.

“The comprehensive strategy against domestic violence” training for lawyers has been running in 2006, including:

  • Selenge Province 23-25 January
  • Nalaikh District 13-15 February
  • Baganuur District 20-22 February
  • Tuv Province 01-03 March
  • Darkhan-Uul Province 13-15 March 

Purpose of the training:

To actively influence in the implementation of the Law against domestic violence through law enforcement officers.

There were 175 participants involved, including advocates, investigators, child investigators, prosecutors, division investigators, judges and officers from the court decision implementation agency, and legal counselors from the Aimag, Districts’ legal divisions who are responsible under the DV law.   

The training will continue through the national level.
