Slovenia has developed a National Action Plan for the Integration of Rural Women in Development, which sets forth five objectives: improve the quality of life for rural women by increasing access to information, education, support and research; ensure equal access to jobs and natural resources; improve access to social services and healthcare; promote gender equality in both the public and private spheres; and further a more holistic perception of gender.
The plan also presents: a description of the present socio-economic and political situation; a summary of the socio-economic status of rural women; a discussion of the political situation during transition, women's access to government resources, women's representation in the political process, and the work of NGOs; an overview of social, economic and political areas of concern, and; recommendations on addressing the obstacles to the integration of rural women in development.
The U.N. Division for the Advancement of Women has sent a questionnaire (PDF) to all governments requesting information on accomplishments and obstacles to implementing the Beijing Platform for Action. Responses are due by 30 April 2004. |
