In collaboration with the United Nations, the Liberian government has launched the “Stop Rape—it could be your mother, your daughter, your sister, your niece” campaign. After years of conflict, rape is the most committed serious crime in the country. UN and Liberian Police are working together to train officers to find and arrest perpetrators, while protection units for women and girls are being established.
At the opening of the Gender and Development Office in Voinjama, Liberia, UN officials also urged general inclusion of women in national and local life for the success of the country.
