Hungary: Experts Urge Government to Identify and Protect More Trafficking Victims

The Council of Europe Group of Experts on Action against Trafficking in Human Beings (GRETA) published its first evaluation of Hungary on May 29, 2015. The report affirmed Hungary’s progress in criminalizing human trafficking, but stressed the continued need to strengthen the country’s efforts to protect and assist trafficking victims. This would include a more coordinated approach to identifying all victims of trafficking, regardless of “sex, origin or type of exploitation.”  The report also called on Hungary to do more to investigate and prosecute trafficking crimes and to improve victim access to compensation.
