Germany's government has announced new feminist guidelines for its diplomatic and development work. A new "ambassador for feminist foreign policy" is being created, and a feminist focus will be applied to foreign development decision-making, in order to address gender inequality and sexual violence. In taking this step, Germany follows the examples of Canada, France, Mexico and Spain. Sweden was the first country to announce a feminist foreign policy, but abandoned it in 2022 after its shift to a more conservative government.
