In a new publication called, “Reporters’ Guide: 2024 Paris Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games,” Human Rights Watch emphasizes the need for France to uphold tolerance, non-discrimination, and human rights during the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. This report highlights issues like systemic discrimination against minority athletes, bans on headscarves for French female athletes, and increased restrictions on freedoms. Additionally, the report covers abuse against athletes, including sexual abuse, gender-based violence, and sex testing of female athletes. The 2024 Olympics are the first to happen since the International Olympic Committee adopted a human rights framework. The Games also come to France at a time when the country is facing deteriorating human rights and are taking place in the context of the recent snap election in the country.
