France's Independent Commission on Incest and Sexual Violence Against Children has called for the removal of the statute of limitations in such cases. The statute of limitations, under French law, is currently 30 years. The commission estimates that there are approximately 160,000 child victims of sexual violence each year in France, and notes that it can take many years or decades before victims are able to speak out.
