Egypt: New Initiatives for Widespread Sexual Harassment

UN Women and the Cairo Demographic Center conducted a study targeting women at the end of 2013. The study found that 99.3% of Egyptian women surveyed reported being sexual harassed.

Activists have sought new initiatives and campaigns to address the perpetrators and offer psychological support to victims. They raise awareness about the dangers harassment poses to society. Another recent innovation called ‘HarassMap’ tracks and maps all occurrences of sexual harassment as well as breaking down perceptions of how ‘normal’ sexual harassment is.
