Ecuador: Preventing Violence against Women after Massive Earthquake

On April 16, a powerful earthquake displaced more than 25,000 people in Ecuador. Due to concerns about an increase in violence against women and minority groups after such a disaster, UN Women is coordinating efforts to ensure “safe resettlement and recovery activities for women” affected by the earthquake. UN Women is also working with the Ecuadorian Ministries of Defense and Interior and other UN agencies to provide training for security forces on how to prevent violence against women and girls, particularly those who have been resettled after the quake.
