Civil rights groups in Croatia highlighted that authorities are incorrectly denying war victim status to some survivors of sexual violence during the Croatian war, often based on individual motivation or location technicalities, leading to underreporting of crimes and perpetrators going unpunished; the Law on the Rights of Victims of Sexual Violence During the Armed Aggression is being applied restrictively, with only 298 out of an estimated 1,500 to 2,200 victims having applied for this status so far.
