Across the United States, cities are experiencing differing trends in call numbers, and are issuing various responses in accordance with advocates’ urging. In Chicago, IL, calls from people experiencing domestic violence increased from 383 calls at the beginning of March to 549 by the end of April. In response to so many callers requesting shelter, Chicago mayor Lori Lightfoot announced a partnership with Airbnb and hotels in the area to provide shelter for those seeking refuge from abusive situations at home.
