In Ireland, since late March, according to Irish police department, reports of domestic violence have increased by 25%. Meanwhile, Women’s Aid and Safe Ireland, organizations dedicated to supporting victims of abuse, have reported respectively a 39% and 60% increase in calls related to domestic violence issues. Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Irish police department has treated domestic violence prevention as a priority issue, launching Operation Faoiseamh in early April, a two-step program aimed at protecting and supporting victims of domestic violence during the pandemic. Notably, during the last two weeks of May, the government charged over 100 offenders. As of early June, the Department of Social Protection granted victims of domestic violence a three-month access to Rent Supplement to allow them to flee their abusers regardless of financial constraints.
