At a United Nations-sponsored expert group meeting in Vienna from 26-28 May 2008, experts on violence and discrimination against women met to create recommendations for designing new legislation and improving existing legislation. Sixteen experts gave presentations on the current situation in a particular part of the world, using statistics and personal stories to demonstrate how effective that region’s legislation has been in combating violence against women.
