On October 29th, Colombian congresswomen presented a bill to provide compensation to victims – mostly women – of intrafamilial violence. The bill addresses four key elements: comprehensive reparation, speedy process, seizure of assets, and measures to prevent revictimization. The bill was drafted as a response to court sentence (STC-4283 2022), which recommended that Congress take decisive action regarding gender violence. The bill specifically focuses on reparation, as this will allow women to get economic support, which will help in matters such as leaving their partner and moving to a safe location. The bill is now pending approval by Congress.
