In December 2024, the government of Cameroon abruptly halted the work of four nongovernmental organizations supporting survivors of gender-based violence without providing any explanation. Since the Cameroonian government had extensively relied on NGOs to support survivors of gender-based violence, especially due to its limited resources, this decision has left many women vulnerable without crucial services, such as shelter, legal support, and psychosocial aid. Despite the government’s past national strategies aimed at ending gender-based violence, the lack of infrastructure and resources, coupled with the arbitrary suspension of these organizations, highlights a significant gap between policy and execution.
