Next month, Armenia’s parliament will consider a new bill to combat domestic violence and protect victims. The bill comes two years after parliament failed to pass a similar billon domestic violence. Activists and NGO workers are hopeful that a changed political climate and a greater willingness on the part of politicians to discuss domestic violence laws will lead to success in 2015. A 2007 nation-wide survey revealed 35% of Armenian women have experienced domestic violence. Existing shelters for victims of domestic violence are unable to accommodate all women who need help.
