Developing a strategic policy of the town of Kosice on combating violence against women and its subsequent implementation, setting up a specific women‘s shelter in the town, developing and implementing directives for various professionals, as well as collecting and processing specific data on violence against women are some of the recommendations of the Monitoring Report developed by the working group on the prevention and elimination of violence against women in Kosice. The Monitoring Report on the current situation in the field of prevention and elimination of violence against women in Kosice from the point of view of institutions represented in the working group was developed within a project funded by the Government Council for Crime Prevention. The report is also the main outcome of the first year of the working group’s existence and activities.
Apart from Fenestra, the coordinating organization of the working group, the representatives of the Regional Directorate of Police Forces in Kosice, Labor, Social Affairs and Family Office in Kosice, Town of Kosice, Kosice Self-governing Region and town district Kosice-Juh are the members of working group.
Violence against women is one of the most frequent violations of human rights worldwide. According to the latest representative research on violence against women, 21.2% of Slovak women currently in a relationship experience violence at the hand of their partner. Development and implementation of a model of cooperation among relevant institutions is an effective tool of combating violence against women, as no institution can succeed in it alone. Monitoring and knowledge of the current situation in the field of violence against women at the level of the individual relevant institutions is the first step towards developing a good practice in multi-institutional cooperation.
