To celebrate the International Women’s Day and to voice girls and women’s issues 87 female artists from around the world donated their artworks for the TreasurePostcards Project that has helped generate thus far micro-funds for two shelters: Calvary Women’s Services located in Washington DC and Mor Çati Women’s Shelter in Istanbul, Turkey that aim to address issues around domestic violence and help women who have become victims of such cruelty. The postcard-sized artworks are in numerous arts styles, and represent varied techniques of prints, textiles, photographs, acrylics, oil paints, graphite, collage, mixed-media, and others. Themes highlighted in the works range from civil rights, to sexual violence, breast cancer, HIV/AIDS, importance of literacy, economic empowerment, and more.

The project was recently at the Ninth Street Gallery and then in Artomatic, Washington DC’s month-long multimedia arts event. TreasurePostcards’ second exhibit has been launched at the Sewall-Belmont House and Museum, which is the headquarters of the historic U.S. National Woman's Party and was the Washington home of its founder and Equal Rights Amendment author Alice Paul. The quest now at the Sewall-Belmont House is to help raise funds for the “Brighter Tomorrow for Africa Foundation” that supports women, girls, and children in Sierra Leone.  The exhibit will be on display until the beginning of September 2008 and artworks are sold via silent auction.
