UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon announced a new global initiative to end violence against women. “I call on men around the world to lead by example; to make clear that violence against women is an act perpetrated by a coward, and that speaking up against it is a badge of honor.” The “UNITE to End Violence Against Women” campaign will extend through 2015, and targets men in government, sports, business, religion, and the arts. Each country will devise its own measures, and there are goals to hold a progress review in 2010.
