The Croatian daily newspaper "Jutarnji list" published new, official statistics on cases of rape in the city of Zagreb, the capital of Croatia. According to the Main Zagreb Police Station records, in the first ten months of 2006, 26 rapes have been reported; last year, 12 rapes were reported over the same period, which shows an increased rape rate of more than 100%.

In the first ten months of this year, 6 rape attempts were recorded – in  3 cases, the rapists were identified and prosecuted, in comparison to 4 rape attempts last year, where all attackers were captured and prosecuted. In this period, 38 indecency acts were reported, and 31 of them were solved. Last year, 34 out of 45 indecency acts were solved. According to their records, the police solved all rape attempts in the Zagreb area last year, which leads to the expectation that also the brutal Sunday rape that Jutarnji list reported will not remained unpunished. This rape occurred on November 12th, at 4.50 a.m., in which a young girl (24) was brutally raped and robbed in Dugave district in Zagreb.
