On April 9, 2008, the Law Against Feminicide and Other Forms of Violence Against Women passed in Guatemala. Human rights organizations, notably the Democracy Program of the Netherlands Institute for Multiparty Democracy, have documented cases when the abuse, sexual assault, and murder of women have not been prosecuted. Police, prosecutors, and human rights activists can use the law to ensure that women’s rights are protected.
