The Department for Women, Family and Prevention of Discrimination (MLSP) of the Ministry of Labour and Social Policy is a coordinator of actions related to the social status of women and the family; the MLSP is a successor of the Government Plenipotentiary for Equal Status of Women and Men.

 

The 2006-2016 Programme of Counteracting Domestic Violence includes the following activities:

 

  • Training of services involved in combating domestic violence;
  • Introducing subjects related to causes and consequences of domestic violence in professional training of people involved in dealing with domestic violence;
  • Raising social awareness, also through educational and support programmes;
  • Collecting information on the incidence of violence;
  • Assistance to the victims through the operation of specialist support centers, preparation of procedures of legal protection and psychological support for witnesses of domestic violence; and
  • Studies of efficacy of assistance provided to families.

The Program includes activities targeted at perpetrators of violence, such as the following:

  • Isolation of perpetrators and victims, an injunction to leave the premises even if the perpetrator is the main lodger or owner of the apartment;
  • Preparation and implementation of correctional and educational programmes; and

·        The perpetrators’ performance of community work.

The National Strategy for the Growth of Employment and Development of Human Resources envisages the following undertakings:

 

  • Eradication of barriers and discriminatory treatment of women in the labour market; and
  • Publicity campaigns to discourage employers from discrimination during recruitment, organization of work posts, remuneration and assessment of workers.

Currently, the National Action Plan against Trafficking in human beings for 2009-2010 is being implemented in Poland. This programme continues the initiatives of the 2006-2008 action plan, and is set to be an integral part of the National Development Strategy for 2007-2015.
