The Slovak and Czech Women’s Fund in Slovakia (SCWF) is organizing an event on March 8th celebrating the achievements of women throughout past decades.SCWF, the only fund exclusively supporting activities and projects of women’s rights NGOs, has paired up with the Theatre on the Crossroads from Banska Bystrica, which has recently become known for its efforts to introduce gender issues, women’s experience and gender sensitive language to the context of Slovak theatre.
Their play “Power and Ladies” depicts everyday life of women of different ages, which often goes unnoticed. The performance is based on emotional acting exercises and improvisation. The play is a part of T.W.I.G.A project (Theatre Women Improvisation Gender Action), which provides spaces for actresses and female students of performing arts and art schools.
In the Slovak context, the efforts of the theatre are unique and very much needed as there is no tradition of such theatre productions in the country. Despite rather controversial women’s issues the theatre has presented so far, it gets very favorable reactions from the audiences.
