- Concluding observations of the Committee (French)
- The Committee welcomed the creation of special police units to deal with cases of domestic violence and neglect of children, as well as the establishment of a children's hotline in 1999 to address complaints in this area. The Committee recommended that the State party prohibit all forms of physical and mental violence in the family and institutions; ensure that the abused child is not victimized in legal proceedings; strengthen rehabilitation and reintegration programs for abused children; and address socio-cultural barriers that hinder victims from seeking help. The Committee was also concerned that Slovakia was a transit country for the transport of children for sexual exploitation. The Committee recommended that the government gather information on the trafficking of children; ensure that sexual exploitation laws are gender-neutral; provide civil remedies for victims; ensure that procedures are appropriate, timely, and victim-sensitive; include provisions to protect victims from discrimination and retaliation; pursue enforcement; and establish rehabilitation programs and shelters. The Committee also recommended that the State party continue to carry out public awareness campaigns to educate the public on both the child's right to protection from sexual exploitation and the negative consequences of ill-treatment of children.
