A newly released shadow report, addressing the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) and the Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (CAT), outlines torture of Canadian women by non-state actors. The specific types of torture included physical, sexual, mental, and ritual abuse. The authors recommend naming, legal and statistical interventions, support and treatment, education, and research.
